Our Ethical Values: Vegan Friendly

Our Vegan Friendly collection embodies our dedication to respecting our planet, environment, and all living beings; people, plants, and animals alike.

Veganism is often viewed as a binary concept: you’re either vegan or you’re not. However, the reality is more nuanced, with varying perspectives on what veganism entails. At its core, a vegan diet excludes all animal products—not just meat and fish but also eggs, dairy, and any animal-derived by-products. Yet veganism extends beyond diet; it’s often part of a broader lifestyle that embraces animal welfare, environmental protection, and ethical practices. This includes choices around clothing, accessories, beauty products, homewares, energy suppliers, and avoiding unethical companies.

In the UK, vegan-friendly typically refers to products that align with vegan principles in formulation, production, packaging, and testing. However, because the term "vegan" is not legally regulated, certification isn’t mandatory. Independent organisations like the Vegan Society offer certification, with their Vegan Trademark serving as an internationally recognized standard. This mark guarantees that a product contains no animal-derived ingredients or by-products.

Our Vegan collection features products that either carry the Vegan Society Trademark or have been confirmed as vegan by their manufacturers. These products are free from all animal-derived ingredients and by-products. Moreover, every item in our Vegan Friendly range is also cruelty-free, as are all products offered by Green Tulip.

What’s the Difference Between Vegan and Vegan Friendly?

Products labelled vegan are certified with the Vegan Society Trademark. In contrast, vegan-friendly products are not officially registered with the trademark but are confirmed as vegan by their manufacturers. At Green Tulip, we work closely with our suppliers to verify these claims and ensure their authenticity.

What’s the Difference Between Cruelty-Free and Vegan?

A product is vegan if it contains no animal-derived ingredients, but this doesn’t necessarily mean it hasn’t been tested on animals. Conversely, a product is cruelty-free if it hasn’t involved animal testing at any stage of its production, yet it may still include animal-derived ingredients like honey or milk. In many cases, vegan products are also cruelty-free, but this isn’t guaranteed. At Green Tulip, we ensure that all our vegan, beauty, wellbeing, and cleaning products are also cruelty-free, so you can shop with confidence.

What are the benefits of choosing vegan friendly products?

Diet considerations aside as we are not selling vegan food, there are other benefits to choosing vegan gifts and products.

1. Eco-Friendly
  • Vegan beauty products reduce the carbon footprint and mitigate global warming by avoiding animal-derived ingredients.
  • Traditional animal farming contributes significantly to methane emissions, deforestation, habitat destruction, and pollution.
  • Vegan alternatives use sustainable, natural ingredients, lowering environmental harm and producing less waste.
2. Kind to Animals
  • Supporting vegan products promotes cruelty-free practices and a shift away from animal testing and exploitation.
  • Avoiding animal-derived ingredients reduces waste from animal farms and laboratories while discouraging harmful manufacturing practices.
3. Healthier and Cleaner
  • Vegan products exclude questionable animal-derived substances like allantoin (from cow urine) or ambergris (whale vomit), which are unappealing and unnecessary.
  • These products tend to focus on clean, natural, and less processed ingredients, aligning better with health-conscious and ethical values.
