TEDDY LOCKS

The idea for Teddy Locks came in 2018 when marine biologist and TV wildlife producer Samantha Tolworthy realised that no matter how far away or remote she went, she always noticed discarded single-use plastic. Her eco-anxiety had hit an all-time high so she decided it was time to develop a product that would put plastic waste to work.

The story behind Teddy Locks

BACK TO SCHOOL!

Sam figured that as everyone wears socks, she would aim to develop the world's best socks using fibre produced from recycled plastic bottles. So Sam left her dream job and spent 404 days creating and perfecting her design. After attending sock school and many, many weeks knitting socks, Teddy Locks - Cockney rhyming slang for Teddington Locks (socks!) - was ready to launch on Kickstarter. It was 2020, Sam was 9 months pregnant, and then Covid hit.

It was an impossibly hard year...

SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION

Following those difficult early months new mum Sam frequently attended street markets all over Kent, Surrey and London - even her brother Ryan occasionally stepped in to lend a hand!

Today Sam still successfully designs and develops new socks from her home in Oxted, Surrey, as well as sending out orders and bringing-up her young daughter. Production however, happens over in North Carolina, USA because the green machines used to knit them aren't currently available here in the UK. So without the legendary Ruben Toledo here, senior technician at the knitting mill, the idea of making socks from plastic bottles would never have come to fruition.

Nice one Ruben - we love them! 👍👍👍

Sustainable, hard-wearing socks that are kind to your feet and to the planet!

Teddy Locks produce the most comfortable, seamless socks that don't fall down, don't rub and don't make holes!  Plus they're made from recycled plastic bottles - helping to reduce the amount of plastic waste ending up in our oceans, on our beaches and at our overflowing landfill sites.

    Why I Love Teddy Locks

I am always on the look out for innovative brands, and especially those that use innovative materials. You'd never know looking at Teddy Locks' socks that they are made from recycled plastic bottles and that is the fun part of them (as well as the cool colours!). I can also confirm they are really comfy - which of course is actually the most important thing when it comes to the subject of socks!
