Luna Moon & Star Pendant

Just Trade works in partnership with fair trade artisans across the world to create hand made contemporary fashion jewellery for the ethically minded.

The moon charm is hand carved from a tagua nut, a seed from a type of palm that grows in the South American rainforests. Often known as vegetable ivory, tagua is an environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative to animal ivory. A nut is selected that is as close to the desired finished shape as possible, which is then formed using a variety of sanding processes and polished to achieve a smooth surface.

The brass star charm is handmade by the Flowering Desert Project which provides training and fairly paid work for women from rural communities in Tamil Nadu, India. The women started as a group of 7 and have developed in to an incredible team of 40. The initial team were trained back in 2010 and since then have been passing on their metal making knowledge and skills to new members.

The necklace is hand finished and packaged in London. Chain approximately 18" (46cm) long with claw clasp. Comes mounted on a recyclable card detailing the fair trade nature of the product.
