Duck Cellulose Sponge

Cellulose is a renewable natural resource made from wood pulp.

Replacing plastic sponges with cellulose alternatives means you are not adding microplastics into your home and our waterways. It means less plastic is being produced from extracted oil and is a step away from fossil fuel reliance towards more a more sustainable way of living.

With proper care, cellulose sponges can last indefinitely.  Under normal day-to-day domestic usage, it can typically last for around six months. For best longevity, rinse thoroughly after each use and allow to air dry completely.

As cellulose is a natural material, it can be more prone to absorbing bacteria so it can be put in the washing machine at a hot temperature. Once the sponge starts to smell or break down, it should be replaced.

Cellulose sponges are biodegradable and 100% compostable but they are not explicitly tested as home compostable.

Cellulose sponges can be home composted. To speed up decomposition, cut the sponge into small pieces before adding it to your compost pile.

If you don’t compost, don't worry, you can put these in your usual household waste.

Please note that all of our cellulose sponges are 100% compostable and can be disposed of in both household waste and landfill. Whist they are not explicitly certified as home compostable, it is possible for these sponges to be home composted but it could take a while depending upon environmental conditions i.e. heat and moisture.
