This chunky knotted tube bracelet is made up of tiny glass beads known as 'Pote', a style that is very popular in Nepali society and culture. Although the beads are threaded with strong cotton, the bracelet is very flexible and designed to gently roll over the hand and sit comfortably on the wrist - with no fiddly clasps to deal with! Matching necklace also available.

Why we love it

  • Simple, timeless, classic design - perfect for everyday wear and special occasions
  • Handcrafted by skilled artisans at a small fair trade business in Nepal
  • Designed and brought to the UK market by a small, female-led Brand based in Hastings

'Pote' is the common name for these tiny colourful glass beads that are very popular in Nepali society and culture. Colourful pote jewellery is a symbol of luck for the married women in Nepal especially in Hindu communities. The pote beads used in Aura Que's jewellery designs are bought locally in Kathmandu.

      Inner diameter measures around 6cm.

Aura Que works closely with small producer groups in Nepal that are WFTO members to ensure healthy and safe work environments and payment of living wages. It also encourages trade for small Nepalese family businesses and charity handicraft units, aiming to slowly build long term relationships with these suppliers, under the same fair principles.

Handmade by Nabila and Rajesh alonside skilled artisans through their fair trade family business in Nepal. Nabila has taken over the business since her Fathers’ retirement, and they have been working with many of their artisans for over 25 years. They work with many women in the Kathmandu valley who make the pieces around their family commitments at home. This gives the women flexibility in their working hours, usually working alongside other family members, friends and neighbours to coordinate small productions. Nabila and Rajesh coordinate the designs and orders, distribute the materials to the women, and then collect the final pieces.
