EAST END PRESS
Whilst studying Illustration at the Glasgow School of Art, founder Ellie Hodesdon discovered a love of screen printing and joined Glasgow Print Studio. The idea for East End Press came later in 2015 when Ellie returned to Scotland from living abroad. She couldn’t find work and, being inspired by traditional folk art designs and processes such as Eastern European paper cuts and Indian block printing, Ellie started drawing and screen printing products to sell at markets and shops.
As the business grew, it was one of Ellie's dreams to work with printers and craftspeople from all over the world. East End Press had always been inspired by the traditional crafts and folk art of other cultures, and it seemed like a natural progression for the brand. It was a huge challenge for Ellie to find consistent, good quality, reliable and ethical manufacturers as many of them are small cottage industry type businesses and don’t have an online presence, so it literally meant Ellie had to fly out to a country and drive around in a tuk-tuk knocking on doors and meeting people - but it was well worth the effort!
Today, Ellie has a beautiful design studio located in Bridgeton at the east end of Glasgow, where she works tirelessly with her cuddly, four-legged colleague Frida. Ellie has just returned from a research trip to Mexico which she found so inspiring - both work-wise and personally. She came back full of new ideas and brimming with energy to get going with them - we can't wait to see what fabulous designs she comes up with!
